Deval Varmora’s Breastfeeding story

I had never think much about breastfeeding before I conceived….But once I got pregnant I was determined to stick on to breastfeeding bcoz of my antenatal classes at P101 after knowing all the benefit ; strengthening mommy baby bonding, higher IQ, less chances to allergy, and less chances of DZ like DM, Asthma, High Cholesterol in later stage of lifeΒ and the convenience of it, well it was exactly I was looking for…

I had to go for C-section to deliver my baby as he was overweight…I had requested my doctor to give my baby to latch on as soon as possible and they put my baby to my breast within 1 hour as I was not able to sit and take him in my arms…He tried to latch on but no milk was coming out then sister tried to express a few drops of colostrum and gave it to my baby….

The beginning was little tough…for the first 2-3 days they gave him formula as I had clogged pores and less milk supply so no milk was coming out..then one lactation consultant at the hospital helped me out to how to do massage and all…Hot water bottle application nd massage for 15 mins before breastfeeding helped me to unplug the pores…but still my baby was not able to latch on properly on my breast as I had another problem of short/flat nipple…I tried nipple shield for it…but all my efforts got failed as my baby was got used to take formula (direct flow without any efforts) since birth so didn’t want to do any efforts for sucking to get milk…whenever I try to put him on my breast he cried a lot so my lactation consultant gave me a trick to put a few drops of formula on nipple by syringe while putting him on my breast so he may try to suck on it…He started to latch on my breast but then he got used to take direct flow of milk coming from the syringe and not trying to make efforts for latching on breasts without it…Then after 3-4 days to coming home I started pumping my milk every 2 hour and give him to drop by drop on my breast by using syringe instead of formula so he started to latch on my breast..I had also started lactare cap and Shatavari granules to increase my bm and had included all the galactagogues food in my diet… these all things took around 12 days…then my nipple problem eventually solved and I tried to put him on my breast without using syringe nd nipple shield…for a few days he cried a lot bcoz he was not used to do too many efforts for getting his food but then It solved…and we both learned it in a few days.

Again when he was 1.5 months…I was feeling that I was not producing enough milk as he was bf every 1 hour and was very cranky even after bf…so started again with Shatavari granules and lactare caps to provide sufficient milk for my baby and bf whenever he wanted…but in all these struggles I got to know that bf is all about mind and less about diet…so now whenever I do bf I keep all my stress outside by cherishing all good memories and watching him and we both enjoy breastfeeding now…One thing I want to say is that It is the best thing one mother can do for her baby.
